Was just going to install a sunfire cluster into my cavalier, i plugged information technology in everything works but the mileage is sooo dim y'all cannot see it at all. If you really look yous can see it. I tried all fuses already and dimmer switch , i cannot go it to lite up. i thought for sure information technology was my new cluster, and then i plug the old one back in and information technology will non calorie-free upward either? Hopefully someone tin can help asap while its all apart

If you give your dash above the cluster a good hit, information technology will light back up...This is a mutual problem among the newer clusters, its a seedling that gets sorta loose and very hard to fix due to the fact its very difficult to take apart the newer clusters.

my black cat cluster needs new led's i call up, it does not display mileage and the left side intermittently lights upwardly. i may have them re engineer information technology with red needles this time.

yeah tht happen in my girls cav afterward i put the dash back together and in my dads cav wen he got it back from the people who installed his stereo we jus gave it a skilful smack or 2 and it lit right back up.

yea just give her a practiced hitting like the fonz

Ayyyyyyyy

I just vanquish mine similar it owes me money.

all joking aside, i went outside to start my 05 sunfire and it was right subsequently posting up the fonz and to my surprise my millage didnt calorie-free up, no @!#$, so i really get wow wtf and hit the dash and yup it worked lol

Mine lights up but information technology simply displays all kinds of crazy digits. I recollect its trying to tell me something.......

HHahahahaha My 00 Z lights upwards, but says the weird digits likewise. So If i demand the mileage, I practice that push thing. If I bang on it, information technology works for almost twenty seconds or till the side by side bump, and goes back lol. Oh well. Lol

HHahahahaha My 00 Z lights upwardly, merely says the weird digits too. And then If i need the mileage, I do that button thing. If I bang on it, it works for about twenty seconds or till the next bump, and goes back lol. Oh well. Lol

hither besides

I have a '05 cav. and the mileage dorsum lit bulb die and the bulb behind the temp estimate get out also. I replaced the with Radio Shack pn 272-1154 12v 50mA bi-pivot lamp bulbs. They are smaller than original ones but piece of work. Also tin exist used in the manufacturing plant radio. Cluster is piece of cake to disassemble. Front and back covers come off after releasing tabs effectually the edge. Utilise tape and mark tip positions on all needles considering y'all must pull them off. Unsolder bulbs from excursion lath. Must exercise this beginning for mileage back low-cal. Them squeeze white tabs on the frame around lcd screen and GENTLY bend the assembly abroad from printed excursion board ONLY far enought for bulb to come out. And then put new seedling in and through the holes in the lath and solder fast and GENTLY put lcd screen assembly back in place. Unsolder whatever other bulbs and replace. Now yous will have lights again and just sent $i.lxx per bulb and non $100+ for someone to reman it or a new ane. The mill radio is fifty-fifty easier. accept top and bottom plates off radio, they pop off the pressed tabs. Carefully disconnect the iii wire connectors one on 1 side and ii on the other tin can't recollect which one is top and bottom, but you will meet. They unplug from inside the radio Non from confront plate excursion board. Pull all knobs straight off posts and release plastic retaining tabs around face plate to remove it. You lot can unsolder the bulbs from back side of excursion board without unbolting it from plastic faceplate. Don't let any ane tell you tin't diassemble the cluster and bulbs can't be replaced. I fixed mine and everything lights upward perfectly and only cost me $six.00, an hour of my time and a piddling solder to set. It can exist washed, but have your time if non careful y'all might exist buying a new cluster. Good luck.

It can be done, just take your fourth dimension if not careful you might be buying a new cluster. Good luck.

Dude, you got lucky.. I've taken autonomously 12 or so of them now, and merely one of them ever went back together and had all iv needles still work.

I won't tell anyone you can't do information technology... but it'south frickin' difficult.

This....

And I still Wont try information technology lol

Get-go off you lot must marking where the needles where they rest when unplugged. Second the needle assembly electrics are very delicate, this is not like wrenching on an engine. No boldness merely I can understand why and how people tin make a practiced living remaning them.

I'chiliad guessing you managed to get all four needle caps off the bulldoze pin without pulling the pin out of the gear pack. That'southward the problem with most of the 2000+ clusters.. in one case you pull a unmarried pin out, it'south fooked!

I have the aforementioned problem and by the sound of it, I will need to pay $200 if I desire to see my odometer clearly once more? Swell. I will just have to stick to shining a flashlight at it to read the mileage easier (2d flick). haha

If y'all're ownership a brand new cluster from the dealer.. yeah, y'all'll probably be paying $200 or more. But I've had no bug getting a $20 cluster from the wrecking m and replacing it myself... so..

Assuming the "smack the pinnacle of the nuance" fob no longer works..

after reading this i went out and striking my dash a few times and mine still doesn't work, about likely end up buying a black true cat cluster just for that reason lol

Chances are that it does, its a J!

This issue happened to my '01, giving information technology a practiced smack usually did the trick.

I had the problem of crazy digits also. If I pushed on the cluster, it would show the correct miles. I took the dash apart, and plant that the connector that hooks up to the back of the cluster was a little loose. If I wiggled it around, or pushed it into the connector it worked perfectly. Might desire to experiment with the different kinds of pressure, then just utilize duct tape or something to hold it in that spot.

Well, I tried to fix my 2003 Sunfire cluster. I found the needles were very hard to remove. Got all 4 off without breaking anything. Found the bad BULB for the odometer. Aye, it's a bulb and not a LED. Put it all back together, now all four stepper motors are hard to plough, won't work at all. I've read a lot of comments on how to exercise this properly, didn't work for me. Yes, I should have got the complete kit to replace the bulbs and stepper motors. I know for next fourth dimension. And then I went and got a used one.
